Reality of Awards: Boosting Brands, Careers, and Industries

Awards and ceremonies have become a standard component in many different professions in today’s fast-paced world, whether it is for professionals, firms, achievers in other fields, or even organisations that thrive in certain niches.

These are regularly organised by a wide range of organisations and even online platforms, most of which are led by marketing firms and media outlets. But what real value do these awards bring, behind the glamour? Are they just another form of public relations effort, or do they signify more to the beneficiaries, the organisations, and the target groups (TGs) they serve?

For the Recipient: Getting an award validates and acknowledges the efforts and accomplishments of an individual or organisation in front of the public. This acknowledgement has the power to greatly raise spirits and inspire sustained excellence.

3). Elevating Brands, Careers, and Industries: Awards Do Matter

For the Recipient: Honours are an effective means of promotion. Accolades may be used by businesses and people to improve their brand image on websites, in marketing materials, and on social media platforms. They may set themselves apart from rivals thanks to the prestige that comes with victory.

For the Organisers: Media houses, in particular, benefit from the content that award shows provide since it engages viewers and strengthens their own brands. It’s also an opportunity to establish enduring connections with important industry figures.

4). Networking and Exposure: Unlocking New Opportunities

For the Recipient: Award shows provide fantastic chances for networking. They provide a forum for the formation of important connections by bringing together leaders, innovators, and decision-makers from a range of industries. This exposure may result in new commercial prospects, alliances, and teamwork.

For the Event Organisers: By bringing together powerful people and businesses in one location, the organisers may increase their exposure and clout in the business community. It also enables companies to position themselves as a centre for expertise in the sector.

5). The Internal Impact of Winning Awards

For the Recipient: Gaining recognition for one’s work may enhance staff morale and involvement. It can encourage a sense of pride among the team members and acts as a public acknowledgement of their diligent effort. Furthermore, stakeholders with a recognised and rewarded organisation, such as investors and clients, are likely to feel more secure in their relationship with it.

For the Organisers and Coordinators: They may reach a wider audience and draw sponsorships, collaborations, and more media coverage by partnering with high-achieving performers. Both monetary benefits and reputational improvements may result from this.

7). Media coverage and public relations

For the Recipient: PR benefits from awards are significant. A wider audience can be reached by honourees thanks to the free exposure generated by the media coverage of these events. Increased market visibility and additional business enquiries may result from this exposure.

For the Organisers: The content that these events provide is advantageous to media outlets and event planners. They are able to produce gripping narratives, draw in viewers, and establish themselves as leaders in the field. Furthermore, the organisers themselves benefit from being associated with successful organisations.

When we reached out to Dinesh Vyas, Co-founder of OTF, who has been a recipient of many awards as well as part of the Jury for some prestigious Industry awards, he said,

“I would say that awards are much more than just a publicity stunt – they build credibility for both organizers and recipients. They validate the quality of work, fostering client loyalty through third-party endorsement. Regularly recognizing excellence helps organizers create a trusted platform that engages audiences, making awards essential in shaping success and innovation within any industry.”

When we asked him about his experience as one of the Jury members in the recently organised CWAB (Construction World Architects and Builders Award 2024) awards by the prestigious CONSTRUCTION WORLD, media group, he added

“I was impressed by the well-defined process, profiles of the jury members, discussions during the assessment, decision-making process and particularly the involvement of Mrs Falguni Padode, Group Managing Editor & Co-Founder of CW. She herself is a veteran and religiously follows the work done by professionals and companies. Each of the shortlisted entries was discussed in detail in light of the predefined parameters that did not change looking at the name or fame of the shortlisted potential recipient. Everything that you said about awards holds true when the organisers too qualify to create such a credible process and maintain the ethics. Such awards go beyond a mere PR exercise, getting sponsorship fees and space-selling business that I have seen in some other cases”.
